Oregon baby!

Wow, California is one long state.... even with the fire and festival detours! Our friend Griz helped us out again by gettings us around the fire north of Etna, but not before stopping by the Etna brewery. We've decided to say we are doing a "Brew-Hike" instead of a Thru-Hike as we are drinkers with a hiking problem!
The air already seems a lot clearer here in Oregon. We've been hiking through smoke for close to a month now. Mt. Shasta has only been visible two days out of the three weeks that it typically could have been seen from the trail (see above photo). We are excited to be with our friends Michelle and Kevin at their lovely home in Medford. We will stay here for a couple of days before we head out to hike the state of Oregon. We will finish our hike at Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood for the wedding of our hiking friends Yum and Pep near the end of August. We've enjoyed gorgeous wildflower displays in this last section and have been delayed by wild blackberries and raspberries along the trail.
There is a chance that this will be our last post until we finish our hike. Our resupply towns through Oregon are just small outposts with little likelihood of internet services. We'll update as soon as we can.

Hiya! Have been thinking of you, Lori, as I learned how to process prickly pear fruits in the past week. I'm going to try drying some leather with the juice. If it turns out, I'll make sure a little gets in a resupply box for ya. Keep your fingers crossed.

Enjoy Oregon!

"Chile" ;-)

PS: Somebody's got a sense of humor with the verification stuff. First one was "holyv". This one is "smxscrwd". ;-)

shake n' ride and slo bake! i missed the bday...alas we have not caught you, and perhaps never will... as we are right now in etna. doing yet another road walk, but we've got jellybean's support crew this time, and it's really not that bad. the brewery is not open...which is terribly sad. but...we did go to the amazing thrift store. check out our blog for our latest hiking outfits! miss you guys terribly. perhaps if you stay around timberline lodge long enough we'll catch you there. probably get to ashland on the 11th, and then on from there!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LORI!!

Rich and Wiley are back in Tucson for just five days, after a road trip from Denver (where we had flown in to see/hear the Evergreen Jazz Festival). Got a good desert storm here yesterday...nearly an inch dumped right here on the Old Presidio.

We'll be back for the winter in late Oct/early Nov...it would have been great to see you two here, but we'll survive until Dia de los Muertos...

Have a great end to your amazing trip...we'll be ready to see the slide show!

Hi: I lost the first message. Hope you have wonderful weather the remainder of the trip and no fires. The pix and reports are great reading and looking. I'm sending an article from the July 20, 2008 Minneapolis Star Tribune about a young Minnesota girl hiking the PCT alone - think you will find it interesting.

Oh geez, you folks are just too far ahead to catch. To bad we haven't done the trail before and can skip any sections we want . . .

I just got to Ashland this morning in time for breakfast, Spiff is behind with his sweety. I guess we'll be blasting through OR in order to get to Canada before the snow. Dang roadwalks and our lazy lake jumping selves set us behind . . . Guess we'll just have to visit you in Tucson if we want to ever see you again!

Much love!
