Baja Bound!

Finally edited down the five hours of video from last January's Baja road trip. The video is 15 minutes long and features some amazing wildlife footage and surf shots of 10-time World Champion Kelly Slater. Can't wait 'til next January!

El Tour de Tucson 2010

My buddy Griz came from Humboldt to ride the Tour. It was his first century ride.

First of two beer breaks (beer has lots of carbs):

109 miles in 9:15:31. We came in 3042 and 3043 out of 3485. We brewed beer the next day.

Quote of the Day:

"Our inventions are wont to be pretty toys, which distract our attention from serious things. They are but improved means to an unimproved end."

Blast from the Past

I was looking through my old ticket stubs the other day and thought I'd share some of the older vintages. It's kind of scary that some of them are over 20 years old! Most of my early live music experiences were punk shows at small clubs that didn't print actual tickets. What struck me the most looking through these tickets is that I don't remember most of the shows. I guess the drinking and drugs that go hand in hand with concerts killed those very brain cells. I'll post more later. Enjoy!

My oldest stub (senior in high school):
First arena show:

Alice In Chains was a no-show:

Got the setlist too:

Met Eddie Vedder before the show:
Don't remember a thing about this one:
Saw them in 1990 but no stub:
I miss Shannon Hoon:
First of 13 Dead shows:
First Phish show:

Just saw them last week, 17 years later:

Quote of the Day

"This country has come to feel the same when Congress is in session as we do when the baby gets hold of a hammer. It's just a question of how much damage he can do with it before you can take it away from him."

Help Dave buy a new ride!

This is our buddy Dave! Dave has been a quadriplegic since 1965 but in the few short years we have known him, he has traveled more than most people we know (we have been to Mexico with him three times). He is able to do this with a combination of his motorized bed and his handicap-accessible van. His van is showing its age and Dave is looking for donations to help him get a new one. Please visit his website to learn more and to donate. Thanks!

My dog Reyna

Lori and I finally took the plunge into parenthood! This little angel is Reyna ("queen" in Spanish). She is a 3-month-old Schipperke. Never heard of a Schipperke? From the AKC:
The Schipperke originated in the Flemish regions of Belgium, bred down in size from a black sheepdog called the Leauvenaar. The breed worked as a companion of tradesmen as well as a watchdog and ratter on the river barges, which is where they got the name "Schipperke" since the Flemish word "schip" means boat. Another common nickname for the Schipperke is "Little Captain."
The small, foxlike Schipperke is known for its mischievous expression and distinctive black coat, which stands off from the body and is harsh to the touch. This enthusiastic, joyful, and sometimes willful dog has a thickset and cobby body, and lacks a tail. Although historically a watchdog and vermin hunter, today this ageless breed enjoys competing in conformation, agility and obedience, often well into its teens.
She is pretty much the best dog in the world!
